Janet Hikes
Watercolor, Acrylic & Pastel
Janet moved to New Bern from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, in 2020. She retired from a career as a social worker and school counselor. She has painted for years and has received instruction and inspiration from many workshops and mentors. Janet has traveled to New Mexico and France for painting workshops.
As a new resident, she was searching for an art community. The vibrant arts community of New Bern welcomed her and retirement provided the time and space to paint. Favorite subjects include marshes, beaches, and shoreline landscapes. Painting allows the artist to capture the beauty that surround us. Her favorite medium, watercolor, is often spontaneous and free flowing and insists that the artist become a keen observer of nature.
Janet is a member of the Watercolor Society of North Carolina, a member of the Craven Arts Council, and is delighted to be showing her work at the Community Artist Gallery and Studios.
