Alex Holton
Artist & Musician
As a youngster growing up in New Bern, North Carolina, Alex won prizes for his art and trumpet playing. As an adult, he became a part of the music and art scene in New York City. He’s been a member of The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra at Lincoln Center since 1977 and played trumpet for Broadway show hits such as Les Miserables, The King & I, An American In Paris, Sunset Boulevard, and more.
A sketch pad and paintbox always traveled with Alex and his trumpet. For example, sketching musicians and happenings backstage, and between shows, painting on the streets of NYC was an exhilarating experience!
Alex studied at The Art Students League of New York, and a member of the Lower Hudson River Valley Plein Air Painters and Coastal Carolina Plein Air Painters. He was a winner in the Quick Paint at 2022 Plein Air New Bern. See his work at Community Artists Gallery in New Bern and at AlexHolton.com.
